SMTL undertakes testing of neuraxial connectors to ISO 80369-6:2016 Small-bore connectors for liquid and gases in healthcare applications – Part 6: Connectors for neuraxial applications using the methods listed in ISO 80369-20:2015, Small-bore connectors for liquids and gases in healthcare applications - Part 20: Common test methods.

The testing undertaken by SMTL includes the following performance requirements:

  • Positive pressure liquid leakage

  • Stress cracking

  • Resistance to separation from axial load

  • Resistance to separation from unscrewing

  • Resistance to overriding

We also have referencing fittings to perform gauging of male and female connectors which we have previously used to confirm taper tolerance. Although not part of the standard these are often useful for maintenance of production quality dimensions.

Unfortunately at present we are unable to test for Pressure decay fluid leakage and Sub-atmospheric pressure air leakage as these methods are currently being validated internally.

If you wish to commission testing of your neuraxial connectors, then contact the SMTL:
